Welcome to my blog today we were doing some Maori word definitions. Here are the definitions.


No hea koe / where are you from

Nop hea au/ahau / where am I from

No hea ia / where are they /he/she from?

No (place) koe/ you are from

Au / Ahau – I

Koe – you

Ia – he / she

My – Toku / Taku

Your – Tou / Tau

His / Hers – Tona / Tano


Greetings Kia ora / hi or hello

Morena – good morning 

Ata Marie – good day

AhiAhi Marie – good afternoon

Po Marie – Good Night

Tena Koe – hello to 1 person


Ko wai / what name

Ko wai tou ingoa? – What is your name?

Ko wai koe? – Who are you?

Ko (Your name) toku ingoa – My name is. 

Tena koe Ko Frankie toku ingoa!!


Aroha – Aroha is the Maori word for love.

Mana – Mana means power.

Koha – Koha is the word for gift.

Tangi – Tangi is the word for crying.

Taonga – Taonga is the word for property.

Waiata – Waiata is the word for sing.

Whenua – Whenua is the word for country.

Waka – Waka is the word for a big Maori boat.

Whanau – Whanau is the word for family.
